British singer Joe Brown recalls friendship with George Harrison

Joe Brown, whose Bruvvers shared bills with the Beatles in the early 1960s and who performed at the Concert for George tribute recalls his friendship with George Harrison: “What we had in common was that neither of us was a musical snob. Music was music and if it came from the heart, it was good. We liked music that went way back – like George Formby, Hoagy Carmichael. Real music.” What made George Harrison such a true friend? “Ukuleles!” says Joe. “We both love ukuleles. George ended up as my best man and he certainly was an’ all. He was a wonderful friend and I miss him every day."

Review: The 'New' 'Let it Be' Looks Great But its Flaws are More Evident Than Ever

I enjoyed streaming the newly restored "Let it Be" on Disney+ over the weekend and thought that it looked and sounded great. Finally, those gloomy Twickenham scenes look a bit brighter and the Beatles are brought out of the shadows. Everything is more colorful and sharp. I think part of this film's reputation as a "downer" was due to the poor image quality. It's worth remembering that the footage originally was shot for TV and then blown up for display on movie screens and never did look that good -- not on movie screens nor on VHS. Once again, Peter Jackson's team has performed a visual feat of magic. Meanwhile, Disney and Apple have performed a bit of PR magic, too, in changing the narrative around the film, telling us that it's not a depressing look at the Beatles breaking up, but a joyful document of them working together -- a lost, misunderstood classic. Beatles to Crown Carnival Queen! A Rare 1963 Concert Program

Via Tracks Ltd. auction site: An extremely rare programme for the Northwich Carnival which saw a unique stage appearance by The Beatles to crown the Carnival Queen at Verdin Park, Northwich, Cheshire on the 6th July 1963. The event saw the biggest crowd Northwich Carnival had ever seen and as soon as The Beatles took to the small stage hundreds of screaming fans tried to storm them, they were held back by police and even the local councillor. The Beatles are mentioned on the third page of the programme, on the seventh page a list of the day’s events is printed which states that the Carnival Queen will be crowed at 3.00pm and The Beatles are pictured on page 13.
