Terry Doran with John Lennon Beatles historian Mark Lewisohn today reports the passing of Beatles' associate Terry Doran. Doran, a Liverpool car dealer, was friends with Brian Epstein before Epstein started managing the Beatles. The pair formed Bydor Cars (a combination of their names) in 1965 in part because the Beatles and Brian's other acts were buying so many vehicles with their newfound riches. The Beatles all purchased cars, including a selection of custom Minis and sports cars, via Brydor. It's said that Doran inspired the line "m eeting a man from the motor trade" in the song "She's Leaving Home" on the Sgt. How ridiculous are Quincy Jones' comments about the Beatles?

Making the rounds this week are some unkind remarks Quincy Jones made about the Beatles in an interview with Vulture . To wit: What’d you think when you first heard rock music? Rock ain’t nothing but a white version of rhythm and blues, motherfucker. You know, I met Paul McCartney when he was 21. What were your first impressions of the Beatles? That they were the worst musicians in the world. They were no-playing motherfuckers. Paul was the worst bass player I ever heard. And Ringo? Don’t even talk about it. DVD and Blu-Ray Sales of the Extras-Free "The Beatles: Get Back" Are Terrible and Peter Jackson Says There Are Still No Plans for an Expanded Edition

Shocker: The genius plan to release Peter Jackson's "The Beatles: Get Back" on DVD and Blu-ray with no extras when it's still readily available on Disney+ has resulted in lackluster sales. Roger Friedman of Showbiz 411 calls the home video release of the film a rare flop for the Fab Four, despite Ringo trying to gin up sales with photos of his feet. Ick! And also, WTF? Friedman writes: The DVD-Blu Ray release was coming, then postponed and kind of fell between the cracks. It should have been a monster release. “Get Back” was finally released three weeks ago in both formats. No one knows about it, and it’s been a dud. The DVD version has sold just 12,716 copies. The Blu Ray has sold 31,661. This is very disappointing. Total sales so far have come to just $1.6 million. Beatles Biographer Hunter Davies Donates McCartney Drawings and More to British Library

From the news release: The British Library has acquired author, broadcaster and journalist Hunter Davies’ archive of notebooks, drafts, photographs and ephemera related to the writing of The Beatles: The Authorised Biography (1968). To date, it is still the only official biography of The Beatles, charting a unique first-hand account of the band’s rise to fame. While writing the book, Davies spent eighteen months with the band and had unprecedented access to John Lennon, Paul McCartney, George Harrison and Ringo Starr, as well as to those within the orbit of one of the most influential music groups in history.
