Beatles Biopics Shoot Scenes at Paul McCartney's Childhood Home

The Daily Mail reports on camera crews and extras on the scene at Paul McCartney's former home at 20 Forthlin Road in the Liverpool suburb of Allerton: Built in 1949, the address was originally bought by McCartney's father Jim in 1955. He would remain their for a decade, until his son – by now a global star – bought him a new house in Heswell, a more prosperous part of the Wirral. The terraced home, now a National Trust property, was a hive of activity as the street was cut off by traffic cones and diversions were created for oncoming vehicles. With black tents and vintage cars lining either side of the road, production assistants were seen wheeling period-appropriate props and clothing onto the exterior set.

A Close-up Look at Jim Irsay's Beatles Collection - with Notes from Mark Lewisohn

Christie's spotlights the upcoming auction of the Jim Irsay Collection, which includes several Beatles items owned by the late Indianapolis Colts owner. Items up for auction include Ringo Starr’s The Ed Sullivan Show drum head, George Harrison’s Gibson ‘SG’ guitar, Paul McCartney’s "Hey Jude" lyric sheet and Ringo Starr's pinky ring. Beatles expert Mark Lewisohn comments on several of the items here .

More Beatles Biopic Reports from Liverpool - including Paul Mescal as Paul McCartney

The Fabs' hometown is a bit of a movie set at the moment as director Sam Mendes films scenes for his upcoming quartet of Beatles biopics. Yesterday, we shared a report on scenes being shot at Paul McCartney's boyhood home in the Liverpool suburb of Allerton, and today the Liverpool Echo ran a shot of actor Paul Mescal, as McCartney, at John Lennon's childhood home on Menlove Avenue. The paper also ran a photo of actress Leeanne Best as John's Aunt Mimi peering out of the home's window. (Best, interestingly, is the niece of former Beatles drummer Pete Best.) Along with those photos, the Echo also posted some shots depicting milk truck (looks like there may be some Easter Egg references at play in the films if this vehicle makes the cut) along with some vintage business signs and store fronts. The Daily Mail , meanwhile, also ran several photos of Mescal, as Macca, riding a bike with a guitar slung over his back (presumably on his way to see John). No doub...

Review: 'Paul McCartney: Man on the Run - Music from the Motion Picture Soundtrack'

The soundtrack album for director Morgan Neville's new Wings-era doc, "Paul McCartney: Man on the Run," is a skimpy affair. It runs just under 50 minutes and features only three previously unissued tracks: "Gotta Sing, Gotta Dance," from the 1973 "James Paul McCartney" TV special; "Live and Let Die," from the "Rock Show" film, and a rough mix of "Arrow Through Me." The rest of the short track list features a mix of deep tracks ("Big Barn Bed," "Long-Haired Lady") and big hits ("Band on the Run," "Coming Up" and "Mull of Kintyre.") I couldn't explain why Macca released this album rather than just pointing people to the recent Wings compilation , but at least this single disk isn't a complete overlap of that 2-CD set, so there's at least some value for the money for newer fans or older ones who dumped their vinyl collections and now regret it.
