Paul McCartney's Kid Brother Mike's Group, the Skaffold, Collected in Upcoming Box Set

Out April 25.

Details via Cherry Red Records:

Originally part of a performing revue known as The Liverpool One Fat Lady All Electric Show, Mike “McGear” McCartney, Roger McGough and John Gorman began working as a trio known as The Scaffold in the early 1960s. Performing a mixture of satirical comedy sketches, songs and poetry, they signed with Parlophone Records in 1966 and released a series of successful singles including the Top Ten hit ‘Thank U Very Much’, the number one million selling ‘Lily the Pink’ and the 1974 Top Ten hit ‘Liverpool Lou’ (produced by Paul McCartney). The trio also released a series of albums between 1968 and 1975, ‘The Scaffold: Live at The Queen Elizabeth Hall’, ‘L the P’, ‘Fresh Liver’ and ‘Sold Out’.

Like their fellow satirists The Bonzo Dog Band, The Scaffold had many facets to their work which was reflected both on their albums and in their stage work. Their musical work featured contributions from such luminaries as Jack Bruce, Elton John, Graham Nash, Keith Moon and Paul McCartney and guitarist Andy Roberts was a frequent collaborator.

This new clamshell box set is a long overdue celebration of the originality and inventiveness of The Scaffold and gathers together all of the band’s albums and singles on CD for the first time, along with 13 previously unreleased tracks drawn from BBC radio and studio recording sessions. ‘A Box of Scaffold’ also features a DVD video which includes the recently rediscovered ‘Scaffold at The Talk of the Town’ live concert recorded by BBC TV and broadcast in 1969 and the promo film of ‘Thank U Very Much’ and a performance of ‘Lily the Pink’ from BBC TV in 1969.

‘A Box of Scaffold’ also includes an illustrated book with many unseen photographs, cuttings and a new essay with exclusive interviews with Mike McCartney, Roger McGough and Andy Roberts.
