Sloppy History on Display in First Images from "Midas Man," New Bio-doc About Beatles Manager Brian Epstein

A first peek at the upcoming Brian Epstein bio-doc, "Midas Man," looks less than promising when it comes to getting historical details correct.

Here we see bewigged actors portraying the Beatles in the recording studios. None of them look quite right, which is excusable, I guess, but small details are all wrong.

Hair-wise, this looks to be the Beatles of 1965-66, but I suspect it's intended to portray them earlier in their career. The actor playing George Martin, meanwhile, looks like a kid brother t the end, not older than them. But it's the musical gear that's all wrong.

First-off, the pics show the mid-1960s using an Orange-brand amplifier, but Orange didn't start manufacturing amps until 1968. Plus, I'm not aware of the Beatles ever using them. Through the mid-1960s, they mainly used Vox amps and, later, Fender amps. The pics also show a band member, I presume "John," playing a Gibson Les Paul guitar, but the Beatles didn't use this model of guitar until the later 1960s when George starting playing one during the "White Album" sessions.

It's not fair to judge the film based on these photos, but the lack of attention to detail is disappointing and makes one wonder how accurate the overall production will be.

"Midas Man" stars Jacob Fortune-Lloyd as Brian and Jonah Lees, Blake Richardson, Leo Harvey Elledge and  Campbell Wallace as John, Paul, George and Ringo. Jay Leno is cast as Ed Sullivan. The film is still in production in Liverpool.
