Beatles Win 'Best Rock Performance Award' at Grammys for 'Now and Then' - Watch Sean Lennon's Acceptance Speech

The Beatles last night picked up their first Grammy Award since 1997 for their completed version of John Lennon's 'Now and Then.' The award was accepted on behalf the band by Lennon's son Sean. The song, which stemmed from an unfinished John Lennon demo, featured parts added by his fellow three Beatles in the 1990s and was finally completed with new instrumental and vocal parts added by Paul McCartney and Ringo Starr and a string section in 2022. The tune was released as the "final" Beatles single in November 2023. The tune won in the 'Best Rock Performance' category, where it beat out songs by the Black Keys, Green Day, Idles, Pearl Jam and St. Vincent. It also was nominated in the "Record of the Year" category alongside songs by Beyoncé, Sabrina Carpenter, Charli XCX, Billie Eilish, Chappell Roan and Taylor Swift, but lost out to "Not Like Us" by Kendrick Lamar. Paul McCartney Sings the Praises of His Legendary Hofner Bass

Paul talks to Guitar Player about the instrument he's most closely associated with: “I saw a little bit of the Let It Be film of the Beatles on the roof doing ‘Get Back,’” McCartney said, “and I realized that the way I was holding the Höfner was not like you hold a big, heavy thing that weighs you down and you sort of become a part of it. "The Wals are considerably heavier," he noted. "And the Rickenbacker's are in between.” There’s no denying the Höfner bass looks practically weightless in McCartney’s hands. While he indicates the “Get Back" performance, his work on "Don't Let Me Down," especially during the song's outro, shows how he could play the bass almost like a lead guitar. “So when I saw this Let It Be footage, I noticed how easy it looked to play.
